My Querencia Clipboard

 MY QUERENCIA

The Adrenaline is rushing through my veins as I prepare to serve.  “The pressure is on, Karan.” I think to myself.  As the racket meets with the ball I feet like I have forgotten about everything except tennis. I forget about school, my friends, my social life and my memories. I feel as if I am the only one on earth aside from my opponent. I block out the crowd in my head and just play. All I remember is the fact that I am playing tennis and I am keen on winning. In my mind, I am wishing my opponent good luck before he realizes that I am about to kick his….

When I am on the tennis court, I always feel safe because of the fact that it just feels right to play tennis: the power you have to put into your spin; the topspin or the backspin you have to put on the ball to confuse your opponent; the little biong noise that you hear when the racket meets with the ball.  That fact right there is why tennis is my querencia. You can’t just hit the ball, you have to do certain things to control where the ball goes. What I love about tennis is the fact that any small detail can mess you up. For example, if you don’t draw the power from the left leg on the forehand then the ball won’t even make it over the net because you aren’t putting enough power in it. So, you have to get the fundamentals down before you start advancing. Another sport that you draw your power from is skateboarding. And it just happens to be my second querencia.

Skateboarding is my querencia because it feels good to have the wind blowing on your face when you are skating down a hill. When I skateboard I forget about all my worries, all your homework and all of your problems. Instead of riding because you’re bored, you ride to get away from everything and everyone. When I ride and feel al the little rocks in the road, it calms me down. I feel extremely safe riding my Santa Cruiser down a hill, or on a flat surface because I don’t need to worry about anything. I listen to my Ipod and just skate because I want to get away from life.

So if I want to get away from everything or just have fun skateboarding is the way to go for me. If I want to feel safe or lose myself then tennis is the way to go for me. My two querencia’s are very important to me and they always will be.

Real World Application of Feature Cast

The real world Application of this project is learning about american history is it is good to know how hard some people have worked to make this country what it is today. FOr example it is good to know about Martin Luther King Jr. because our world wouldn't be even close to the same if he didn't do what he did.

Challenges of The Feature Cast

My biggest challenge was i needed to make my writing more powerful. it needed to stand out and at the same time look good. i solved this problem by linking my writing to the current times and it made the whole article a heck of a lot more powerful.

2 Concepts I learned from Feature Cast

I learned many different concepts throughout this project. The first concept i learned was how Martin Luther King Jr. was really killed. he was shot in the head with a shot gun by a man named James Earl Ray. The second concept i learned was the date that MLK Jr. was killed. He was killed on April 4th, 1968.

Reflection for Future Cast

Project Purpose:
To understand the difference between Cause/Effect Relationships and Correlations. To understand how and why major events in history are connected and intertwined (think yarn activity!). To research a major event from U.S. history in order to understand why it is significant and how it relates to other major events. To understand features of a feature article and podcast and to be able to create a feature article or podcast about your major event in history.

Project Requirements:
To present the 5Ws of your major event to the class. To write/peer edit/revise a feature article or podcast. To have at least three drafts in your Writing Portfolio. To present a polished version of your feature article or podcast on Media Night, as well as posting it online to our Team Featurecast from the Past web page (made by James).
